Daniel

Daniel feels that teaching has been a part of who he is for as long as he can remember. Growing up with a grandmother who dedicated her life to education in Eastern Europe, he learned early on that learning and sharing knowledge are among our most valuable virtues. Daniel earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from CSUN and is currently working on a Masters in Data Science through Colorado University Boulder with the dream to become an economist. His professional journey has taken him from tutoring peers to thriving in the fast-paced world of Wall Street. Even there, he naturally gravitated toward roles that involved teaching. At Aspen Learning Lab, Daniel specializes in standardized test preparation (SAT, ACT) as well as supporting English and math courses, and also offers instruction in business subjects like accounting and economics. His aim is to show students that these disciplines are not just academic hurdles, but fields rich with logic and creativity that open up a world of possibilities.

What languages do you speak?

English, Russian, and currently learning Hungarian

Why do you teach?

I love that spreading knowledge is a positive sum game. It’s something I can give to others without losing anything, and often gain something myself!

If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?

I wish I could learn languages faster. I love chatting with people, and it would be amazing to connect fluently with more of them. Every language has its own expressions and quirks that reveal something unique about how people think.

What three words would your students use to describe you?

Goofy, patient, and nerdy

What is your favorite book?

Cat’s Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut. I love how his writing can be funny, witty, sarcastic, and deeply sincere all at once. It’s hard to pull that off.

What’s your favorite place to visit in Los Angeles?

The Hollywood Bowl. There’s nothing better than listening to music outdoors and picnicking with your favorite snacks. It’s one of the best LA traditions.

Any secret talents?

I can solve a Rubik’s Cube in under a minute!
