Learning How You Learn
Discover How You Learn
What Is Our Learning Styles Assessment?
Understanding how each individual child learns is a critical part of Aspen Learning Lab’s approach and process. We utilize a learning styles assessment, called a Self-Portrait™, as a tool for gaining insights into how students learn best and showing them how to use their learning strengths for learning and life success. By understanding how your child processes information, we can tailor our customized programs to meet each student’s individual needs.
Knowledge will bring you the opportunity to make a difference.”
― Claire Fagin
What makes the Self-Portrait™ assessment unique?
The Self-Portrait™ assesses five dimensions of student-centered learning, quickly and simply, in language that is easily understood by everyone. The five dimensions are:
- Disposition
- Modality
- Environment
- Interests
- Talents
The Self-Portrait™ assessment is for you if you want to:
- Discover how your child learns best.
- Help your child learn and understand information
- Improve communication
- Learn how to more effectively help with homework
- Give your child learning tools for the classroom
What if my child currently attends a traditional school?
This assessment is beneficial for all students, regardless of school or program! Once your child completes the online questionnaire, our team will share the results with you and your child’s Aspen Learning Lab teacher. In addition to helping guide our teachers with your child’s learning, the assessment will inform your child’s classroom teacher on how to better reach your child.
How is the assessment administered?
The Self Portrait is an online learning assessment that’s for children as young as 6 years old (1st grade) to adults. For our younger students in grades 1st through 3rd, we recommend that either one of our Aspen Learning Lab Teachers or a parent help with reading. The average reader usually completes the Self-Portrait™ assessment in 20-30 minutes. You will have the ability to log out and finish at a later time should you wish to take breaks. Once the questionnaire is finished, we’ll reach out to you with the assessment results within one week.
